File extension AX, BRO, CRX, and NET are associated with a variety of different file types; one of which is a plugin file. Taking into account the diversity of software for opening such files and that plugin file type is typically used by multimedia applications, web browsers, and editing programs, Avanquest recently published the recommendations on the main types of software to open AX, BRO, CRX, and NET file extensions.

File extension AX is a plugin file type which is used to add functions to a variety of media player applications. AX files provide additional capabilities such as file decompression, editing, encoding, recording, and other functions which are used for creating multimedia audio and video files.

File extension BRO is a plugin file which adds features and capabilities to Bryce 7 Pro. BRO plugins add tools to the interface for creating three dimensional models and help to provide support for a variety of different file formats.

File extension CRX is a plugin file which is used with the Google Chrome web browser. CRX files extend the capabilities of Google Chrome by adding themes and browser add-ons such as ad blockers, private browsing programs, gaming applications, and other functions. The files are typically stored in a compressed format and use a header which means they may not be compatible with some decompression utility programs.

File extension NET is used with FileMaker Pro and is a plugin which extends network support for the FileMaker Pro application. NET files are installed with FileMaker Pro and use both TCP/IP and IPX/SPX protocols.
