Independent short film ‘Dada Ji’ has a new audience – worldwide. On April 7 the movie was released on the popular video viewing website YouTube, and writer/director Sabina Shamdasani coudn’t be happier.
“I’m thrilled to have ‘Dada Ji’ as a part of the Youtube community,” says Shamdasani. “When we launched the movie’s website, we wanted as many people as possible to see the movie via DVD purchases and video downloads. But in order to maximize our audience, we had to make it more accessible through a site like YouTube.”
Between private screenings and film festivals such as LA Shorts Fest, Comicon, and the Danville International Children’s Film Festival where it received a Best Short Film nomination, the filmmaker estimates that the movie has been viewed by a few thousand people. That was over the course of three years.
Now, in almost 1 month since being posted, the movie already has over 10,000 views on YouTube.
“I didn’t know what our potential was because we’re asking that people sit down and watch an 18 minute family oriented movie on their computer screens,” Shamdasani says. “The fact that in one month 10,000 people have had the patience to do that is a huge compliment to the movie.”
